| Wildlife Garden: | Informal area intended to resemble the natural habitat of specific fauna. | |
| Wing: | Thin flat or membranous extension of an organ. Lateral petal in many orchids and members of the Leguminosae family. | |
| Woodland Garden: | Woodland in which non-indigenous trees and shrubs air grown with underplantings of shade loving herbaceous plants and bulbs. | |
| Woody: | Describes the fibrous stems of certain perennials, such as trees, and shrubs, that persist above ground throughout the year. | |
| Woody perennial: | A plant that normally lives more than three years, has wood developed from secondary growth and often increases in size annually. |
