Create a stunning display of Daffodils

When to plant - Mid-October up to Christmas time for displays in March.

What you will need

12 inch clay or plastic flowerpot
Approximately 20-24 bulbs ( the actual number can vary depending on the size of the bulb you obtain)
Choose a large trumpet variety such as 'Golden Harvest' or Dutch Master' for big bold displays.
Potting compost and grit mixed 50/50 or a proprietary bulb fibre.
Plant label

Method

If you are using clay pots, place pieces of broken pot, pebbles or pieces of broken up polystyrene in the bottom to help drainage.

Place a 2 inch (5cm) layer of compost in the bottom of the pot and level it off.

Place the first layer of bulbs on this compost so that each bulb is just touching. Depending on the size of the bulb and the variety that you purchased, this will be in the region of four to eight bulbs.

Add more compost so that it just covers the bulbs, then add a second layer of bulbs.

Add a third layer and level off the compost. Don't forget to put a label in the pot stating what you have planted.

Note - This method can also be used for other bulbs such as Tulips and Hyacinths
