Make a Fan Shaped Trellis

Materials Needed
5 - 6 Ft. Lengths of roofing Lathe.
3 - 3 Ft. Lengths of roofing Lathe.
1 - 1Ft Length of roofing Lathe.
20 - 1.5 inch Screws
(preferably brass to avoid rusting)
Construction
To make the fan shaped trellis, take the 1' piece of timber and mark the centre. Take one of the five 6' lengths of timber and drill a hole of a suitable size to take one the screws about 2" from one end.
Screw through the long piece into the short one making sure it is central and at 90 degrees.
Repeat this process with the other 4- 6' lengths of timber, spacing them evenly on either side of the middle one, leaving just enough room to angle them outwards slightly.
Take the 3' length of timber and mark the canter. Drill holes in the outside timbers 2" from the ends.
Screw these outside timbers to the cross piece.
Position the remaining 2 timbers equally between the central and the outside timbers and drill holes in the long timbers corresponding to where they meet. Screw together firmly.
Mark the position that the central timber lies on the cross piece and drill a hole. Screw the central timber to the cross piece.
Mark the centres of the other 2 cross members. Position them equal distances between the top and bottom cross members, drill and screw together.
Gently curve the outside timbers to give a gentle curve and when satisfied with the shape, mark and drill holes and screw to the cross pieces.
Repeat this process for the 2 inner timbers.
When all joints have been securely screwed together you may find that the tops are longer on the centre timbers, if this is the case trim the tops so that they are level.
If you wish, you can treat the timber with a wood preservative to give your new trellis a longer life. You could, if you wished paint it with one of the coloured paints now on the market for treating wooden fences.
Fasten to the wall or to a post with screws or brackets of your choice.
