Do as
much tidying up as possible before the weather turns bad.
Plant Lily
bulbs.
Protect
any tender shrubs with bracken, straw or sacking.
Finish plant any hardy
plants before winter sets in.
Remove any sucker growths
on trees.
Plant Lily of the Valley
crowns in partially shady places.
This is a good time to
plant any new hedges that you may have in mind.
Cut down and lift Chrysanthemums
and pot up in boxes and place in a coldframe or cold greenhouse.
Clean and oil any tools
that will not be used again until spring.
Take hardwood cuttings
from hardy deciduous shrubs.
As long as the ground
is not frozen, plant new trees and shrubs.
If you sowed hardy annuals
last month and they are looking a bit overcrowded, prick them out into individual
pots or celltrays and continue to overwinter in a coldframe or greenhouse.
Fork lightly in-between
shrubs to get rid of weeds.
Plant Rhododendrons and
Azaleas.
Clear away fallen rose
leaves and mulch to help reduce black spot spores and reduce the chances of
re-infection.
