Take cuttings of
Pelagoniums for winter flowering.
Any shrubs grown
in pots can now be put outdoors. Ensure that they are kept well watered.
Provide shade on
hot days and keep damped down to maintain humidity.
Continue to keep
an eye out for pests and diseases.
Tomatoes in earlier
heated greenhouses will now be flowering. Tap the flowers and mist with
water to help setting.
Move hanging baskets
to their outdoor positions.
Harden
off bedding plants ready for planting towards the end of the month and
feed on a weekly basis.
Water
regularly.
Transplant
Tomatoes into the border as soon as the first flowers appear.
Once
the first truss has set, begin feeding with tomato fertiliser on a weekly
basis.
Prick
out Celery and Celeriac seedlings that were sown in April.
If you have had indoor
displays of spring bulbs, strip the pots down and store the bulbs in a
cool, dry place or they may be placed in the garden to flower the following
spring.
Re-pot stock plant
fuchsias.
Apply
shading if the weather is hot and wet the floor to increase the humidity.
If you have not started
your tomatoes from seed, buy plants and plant out in pots or growbags.
If you find whitefly
or red spider mites, spray the plants or consider using a biological control.
Transplant aubergines
and peppers to their final pots or growbags. Stake if needed and pinch
out the growing tips to encourage bushy growth.
