Sow
seeds of Antirhinum, Salvias, Ageratum, Lobelia and Petunia (in propagator
if needed).
Tuberous Begonias can
be started into growth now.
Sow seeds of Globe
Artichokes in pots.
Ensure adequate ventilation
as daytime temperatures begin to rise.
If not sown in the
Autumn, sow Sweet Peas in pots to provide flowers in late summer.
Sow Asparagus seeds
in a propagator at 65F(18C).
Celery and Celeriac
can also be sown in gentle heat but delay this until next month if heat
cannot be provided.
Sow Dwarf French beans
in pots for an early crop in the greenhouse if it is heated.
Sow begonia seeds.
Re-pot lilies that
are growing in pots. While doing this you can propagate new plants by
removing healthy scales and potting them up in compost.
Place dahlia tubers
in trays to start into growth to provide new shoots for cuttings.
Keep an eye out for
pests such as aphids, they can attack quickly as the weather starts to
get warmer.
Sow perennials to get
them off to an early start and get them to flower the first year.
Bring Chrysanthemum
stools into the greenhouse. Give them warmth and plenty of light so that
they make plenty of growth from which this years cuttings can be made.
Put Dahlia tubers in
boxes of moist compost to shoot ready for taking cuttings.
Sow Geranium seeds
in warmth.
Ensure that ventilation
is provided on warmer days.
Prick out early onion
seedlings into boxes of compost 3" apart or into 3" cell trays.
Sow Lupins and Delphinium
seeds for flowering in August and September.
Pot up Chrysanthemum
cuttings as they become well rooted.
If not sown outdoors,
sow Broad beans in pots for an early crop.
If there is room in
the borders, sow a few lettuce, radish and carrot seeds for early crops.
Pinch out the tips
of sweet peas sown earlier in the year, to promote bushy plants.
Pot up a division of
chives for forcing in the greenhouse or on a window sill.
