The end of the year

Well, so ends another gardening year but, it is no time to sit back. It is also the start of another year. Now is the time to plan that new garden layout, read the seed catalogues and decide what you are going to grow next year and where.

If you have kept a gardening diary over the last year, read it again and see what mistakes you made and plan to correct them. Read up on plants and what conditions they need. If in doubt about something ask a gardening friend. Not even the best gardeners know everything and are learning all the time. If you have failed in one method of growing something this year, don't give up and say 'I can't grow that', try another method next year. One book may tell you to do something a particular way but another book will tell you something completely different. Try different methods or even come up with your own ideas. Over the years I have tried different ways of doing things, eventually you find a way that is successful or easier that you prefer and you learn from the experience.
