Plant Dahlia tubers.
- Sow seeds of Statice, Helichrysum and Acrolinum.
- Prepare the ground for outdoor Chrysanthemums.
- Dead head Daffodils and other bulbs as they finish flowering to prevent seed growth and encourage growth of the bulb.
- Take advantage of any fine mild weather to harden off bedding plants by placing outdoors during the day.
- Take cuttings of Rhododendrons and Azaleas by layering branches.
- Protect sweet peas from slugs as they emerge and tie in shoots.
- Provide stakes for plants as they grow to prevent them from flopping on the ground.
- If not already done, plant Sweet Pea seeds.
- Sow seeds of Hardy Annuals where they are to grow.
- If not sown in the Autumn, sow Biennial seeds such as Sweet William, Canterbury Bells and Foxgloves.
- Prune Forsythia as it finishes flowering. Cut out stems that have just flowered but leave any new growth.
- Plant pot grown Clematis.
- Continue to plant Gladioli corms for a succession of flowers.
- Continue to deadhead spring bulbs.
- Start to stake tender perennials as they grow to prevent damage.
- Divide more tender plants like red hot pokers as they start into growth.
- Protect the flowers of rhododendrons and azaleas against frost at night to prevent damage.
- Take cuttings from herbaceous plants such as Delphiniums and Lupins.
- Sow seeds of hardy annuals.
- Sow sweet peas.
- Put a general fertiliser around border plants t stimulate growth.
- Prune out shoots of forsythia and flowering currants that have flowered to encourage new growth.
- Trim winter flowering heathers, feed and mulch around the plants. Long branches can be layered if new plants are required.
- Dead head daffodils that have finished flowering and feed with a balanced fertiliser to encourage good flowers next year.
- Dead head any spring bedding plants such as primroses and pansies to keep them flowering longer.
- Plant summer flowering bulbs such as crocosmia, gladioli and lilies.
- Take cuttings of hydrangeas, pelagoniums and fuchsias.
